At this point in our journey we have mainly been acquiring funds from our board of trustees and through public donations to our crowdfunding campaign and PayPal, which we couldn't be more thankful for! These currently sit in our bank account waiting for the next big expense (which there are many many many in this journy).
The money will mostly be used for things like planning permission and buying shelters/glamping pods/storage units/building fences. We want to make sure we're all set before we bring anyone into our care!
Now that the charity has been established and we are finalizing our projects our funding plans will be directed towards applying for established grants. To offset the costs from the parts of the charity that were never designed to make money, only do good, we will be offering glamping pods to the public and our volunteers for a small donation that will be used to pay for things like feed and animal care. We will also be hosting events and outings for other charities, businesses, and community originations to fund our projects. When people here of a charity taking in money they get a bit worried, rightfully so, but to make sure we're giving the best care possible we'll make money where we can to fund the aims of the chairty and our projects.
Our main goal for the living arrangements on site will be comfort, accessibility, and not taking away from the natural landscape. We'll be doing this by building glamping pods that do not require foundations that will have their own space and wee gardens near them. They'll be cladded in wooden panels to give them a more rustic look. They'll be 20 feet long and 10 feet wide with plenty of space for a king size bed and places to sit and take in the landscape. Our plan is to have 5 glamping pods to start with and will consider growing when the time calls.
For cooking, laundry, bathrooms, and showers we will have a single unit that is made up of three glamping pods connected to seperate each room directly across from the glamping pods! Our other option was to place a kitchen and bathroom in each glamping pod, but we'd also have to provide a bathroom for the public so this seemed like our best option. Plus it would be pretty cramped with all that in there!
The office that we will use will also be on site so if anyone needs anything we're only a stone throw away. This office also has attached to it a storage unit that we will make into a space for the volunteers to warm up and hang out for a bit, microwave a meal or make a cup of tea.
Holding events at the sanctuary is something we're very passionate about, contacting yoga teachers around the UK and offering the opportunity to run a yoga retreat on the sanctuary. Being able to run their own retreat crosses yoga teachers minds pretty often, and we would simply take a percentage for accommodation. We also have the space to host wedding events and we think that would be pretty cool to do! This is still a very new idea for us and something we would love to get more feedback on!
These events will also be an aspect of our education programs, having the students put on events for their families and friends at the end of the course. More details on our education programs will come in the future as we develop them with the help of the local universities and other charities.
Our primary focus will be taking care of non-human animals which have been hurt by the agricultural system. This will include pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, and cows. We will also help animals that have been abandoned, neglected, or can't be rehabilitated or released into the wild. We're open to new development ideas and we will expand as we build infrastructure to accommodate more animals such a birds, bunnies, and anything else we feel we can help. As of now we are starting with the smaller animals and will grow as land permits.
We are very excited to announce that we have put an offer on a 58 acre plot of land and they have accepted our offer. We will be building in the East Ayrshire area and can't wait to join the community. We will be dedicating parts of the land for biodiversity and growing trees, a community garden, and open spaces we hope to turn into areas for special events and a dog park.
